Atheism?
So has it gone? Or is it back? Did it ever go away? Can we generalise like this? Very interesting questions (in my opinion). I've found that theresurgence is a very useful resource for lots of things but the top topic about atheism being back is most interesting. And then we were talking in our weekly leaders mingle (church leaders from around ammanford coming together) and they thought atheism was gone, that people don;t need convincing of God anymore just which God is true. My experience is that this is quite untrue. But maybe that's because my experience is university. The thing I can't figure out is how in universities so many people are atheist. I though that they were the intellectual cream of the crop. But it appears that most people now think the intellegent option is to write God off. For example I took a class last year, "Philosophy of Religion" where the general teaching was God exisists, there is truth and your stupid if you argue. BUt still the vast MAJORITY of students, inspite of the excellent logic the lecturer was usinig and the tremendous rebutles he used on all their arguments people still came out saying that truth was relative and that there couldnt be a God. Were they listening? One guy actually tried to argue with me that Christianity couldn't be true because it made too much sense, therefore it was logical to concludde that that would be the religion people would make up!?!?! Yeah, atheism is the religion of the elite. Nice one

Atheism I've never understood. Something must have created what we live in but I always fall down at the point when people ask what created God when they don't believe that the Bible is true and accurate.
I'd love to hear more on this subject. I know a few atheists and would like to know how to talk to them about religion.
What created God is a non question reall, as part of a good definition of God is something that ISNT created. I.e we try and apply the rules we know about space and time, but forget that those only applt to the things God put in them. He's outside, hey presto no problem!
Most of the time these people don;t want to talk about it, they just want to hear their opinons over and over again out loud...a little like us I suppose
I think you're missing the point. Yes, atheism strictly is not believing the existence of gods but today it's mainly not believing in any. AKA strong/weak atheism.
What don't you understand about that? You choose to believe in God, I choose not to. It's simply not part of my life. I don't see anything to gain from a religion and I really don't like being preached to about it.
It's very simple - I think you are looking too much into it.
Umm, yeah, i think that proves my point. What 'an atheist' has written doesn;t really realate to anything I've written. You've seen 'Atheism' or 'God' but have completly missed what I've actually written, replying something about it being 'my choice'.
Choose a new tv, choose a big chair, choose a pwerfull car, choose atheism, choose burying your head in the sand.
Well, after basically calling University students stupid for being atheist I kind of stopped paying attention to your idiotic post.
Since when is 'writing god off' about intelligence? IMO it's about apathy :) (Does the quote show I read your post? Extra marks?)
How about you taking a class about atheism (if such exists)? You're only listening to one side of the argument.
This is exactly why I dislike religion - there are too many arguments (wars) and people being close-minded.
I would guess you were bought up with Christianity (I wasn't in the slightest), so I can see why the concept of atheism is rather alien to you.
